It's Wednesday mornin. I went to check on the temperature. It read 45
degrees F. The overnight low was around 20 degrees.
This is with one bulb inside. I think this is close to the proper
set up. I will detail exactly what the finished product is like once I
buy everything at the home center store. I will also detail costs, as
that is a major concern of mine. Part of the fun I have is to keep the
cost per plant as low as possible.
The Christmas tree lights that I have are 25 to a string. They are
15 inches apart. It looks like I will be spacing the plants every 30
inches. I will not fool with trying to waterproof the bulbs that will go
into the pyramids, rather I will figure a way to keep them off the ground
a little. Every other socket in the string will be outside, between each
pyramid. I think that I will remove the bulb and plug the socket with
something. Not deep enough to contact the electrical contacts. but still
seal off the top where the bulb should go. Or perhaps just rest the
empty socket on the ground and cover it with the cut off bottom or top of
a 2 liter pop bottle. (I knew I could work them in if I tried) Does
anyone have any ideas on this?
BTW, I also am going to make up a number of the Pop Bottle Wall Of
Water (PBWOW) ideas. I think I will try to deploy them about 4 weeks
before last frost. Maybe using pepper seeds. I have one out there now
on black plastic and it freezes when the outside temp drops below about
20 degrees F.
I can't seem to get the image of FUNGUS GNATS out of my head. I hope
these little fellows don't have sharp teeth or claws or anything. Maybe
they will just eat the mold and leave me alone?
Stan. The cheap and lazy gardener.
