Hi, Janet. I don't mulch during the growing season, because I have huge
problems with earwigs and pillbugs. But I understand you are supposed to
mulch after the plants are established, since you may need to water
frequently and some mulches hinder watering efforts (though they help
retain what's already in the ground). Since you need to move the mulch
when you feed the plants, I'd wait until after the first feeding, just to
save labor.
