HI Judy
We have been using a shedder for three or four years now. It is an
electric 1300 Watt variety. There are more powerful types available and
petrol driven ones too. We only use ours for shredding prunings etc., but
even in our small 25 x 50 foot garden it provides sufficient mulching
material for the next year. Although it was an expensive initial outlay we
have found that it was well worth it in the long run and now has paid for
itself in terms of bags of mulching material that we didn't have to buy.
It doesn't like soft sappy material, but most plant material will go
through if it is allowed to dry off for a day or two. I don't know about
grass though, depending on length it might just wind round the rotor and
jam. Maybe someone else has experience of this.
The brand is probably not available in the USA, so I won't bore you with
Makers name, model number etc.
My only regret is that we didn't buy a bigger more powerful one at the
time. And when this one finally gives up the ghost (a while yet I think) I
will certainly replace it with a more powerful model.
So FWIW, buy the largest most powerful one you can afford and get
shredding. You won't regret it.
Regards
Stephen
