hi f. drew! innoculant helps legumes(peas, beans, etc.) fix nitrogen from their surroundings. i find that it helps my legumes sprout quicker and grow more profusely. it is usually a black powdery substance. you just dampen your seeds with water and roll them around in the innoculant . a zip lock bag works great. you can get innoculant from a number of catalogues or at a good local nursery. sincerely, jtflash
