Re: corn and pumpkins?

<< I have a patch for growing corn or pumpkins, I like to rotate crops. First
year I grew Corn. Second year I grew pumpkins. I know that the pumpkins left
seed behind. Is it OK to plant the corn in there this year and allow a few
pumpkin vines to grow among them? >>

Native Americans did it all the time. They planted corn, beans and winter
squash (pumpkins) together in the same plot. The beans used the corn for
support, and they both shaded the squash & prevented sun scald. They called
these crops, "the three sisters." Honeybees had not arrived yet in North
America, but the squash was pollinated by a little wild squash bee, which has
become quite scarce today.
