would a lovely acorn squash smothered in brown sugar and butter baked at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes qualify as a fruit or vegetable? its sweet but it has seeds and flowers. without the brown sugar it just tastes like an ordinary squash. sincerely, jtflash

Hi, Duncan! Tomato...I grow it every year, and always am pleased with at least some of the varieties...once I grew a tomato (Beefsteak) that was over five pounds, and it, and a few of its lesser fellows were EXCELLENT cored, then drizzled with a little olive oil, a sprinkling of minced garlic, a little basil, and fresh bread crumbs, baked at 400 degrees 'til lightly browned and sizzling!!! Serve with crunchy bread, cheese (goat?) and a cold drink for an wonderful summer lunch! So here's how I'd vote, according to success in my garden: Tomato Zucchini Asparagus Potato Carrots (we have horses) Peas/pods Beans Corn...difficult here because of raccoons, the thieves! Sorry, couldn't stop at 5, but these are in order, so my top 5 are the first five. A tomato may be a fruit because it has seeds...but then what about corn, peas and beans, cukes, the squashes...? Here's what my abridged dictionary says: any plant that is eaten whole or in part, raw or cooked, generally with an entree or in a salad, but not for dessert, as the tomato, potato, lettuce, cucumber, cabbage, etc. > -----Original Message----- > From: McAlpine, Duncan G [SMTP:Duncan.McAlpine@PSS.Boeing.com] > Sent: Wednesday, March 24, 1999 9:04 AM > To: 'veggie-list@eskimo.com' > Subject: Are You Happy? > > Are you happy with the Veggie Mailing list? > > I was amazed on the number of post on the last digest version.
