Re: garden planning

Beth, radish seeds last forever and make great row markers. We market farm
and all of those row markers sold for $0.50 a bunch last year, just like
the ones we grew in neat long rows.

One idea that worked well when we grew for our own use only was to mix
multiple varieties of leaf lettuce, radish, and carrot together in a baby
food jar and set out the row using the mixture. The radishes will break
the soil for the lettuce and the lettuce and radishes will shelter the
little carrots. At the end, there are just the carrots in a row and you
pull them as they get big, leaving the smaller ones to grow bigger.

We are on spring break from teaching and spent Monday planting 30 bunches
of the 5 doz radishes plants. The wholesale house was already out of onion
sets. This might be a sign that you need to get your sets soon and the
ones that the vendors have will have been around for a while.
