Beans are quite a delicacy for slugs so yes, you will have to worry about
them when the plants are young. There are a variety of barriers & traps you
can use. My favourite is a new product which is on the market which uses
iron phosphate, a natural compound, to kill the slugs without affecting
birds or pets. It's sold under the name Sluggo, Es-car-go, and here in
Canada, as Safer's Slug & Snail Bait. Did wonders in the early spring here.
That's about it for pests on my beans. I know in other areas you can get
Mexican bean beetles. Handpicking is probably the easiest method of control.

Subject: Beans
I will be transplanting Gator Green Beans very soon and am worried about
pests that feed on young plants. Are slugs a concern for beans? What are
some other pests I should be concerned about? Thanks.
