Aside from pests in the insect world, beans are a magnet for rabbits and
deer if you have them in your area. I had to give up finally growing beans.
With my other veggies I've had good success with dried blood and/or red
pepper to keep the animals at bay, but it seems my beans always get eaten
right down to the ground.
I have managed to keep slugs under control with beer traps.
