Did you try Sevin (either liquid or in powder)? That worked well for me.

Do vine borers bother cucumbers as they do squash? I got absolutely no zucchini last year because of them, but can I try cukes? Also, this request is probably in vain but... Anybody have a defense against those critters? Thanks! Monica
They SHOULD bother cucumbers since they are in the same family, but they do not in my experience.
The best and perhaps only protection from borers is a light remay row cover, regardless of how irritating that is.
I grow hundreds of squash plants each year. I feel that last year 100% of my plants had borers. We even had borders in the fruit!!! (yes, I didn't use remay)
