When teaching Raised Bed Gardening, I tell the class to kneel beside
the future bed and reach in, leaving a handprint. Go to the other
side and repeat, slight overlapping the first. Now you have your
"ideal" width. For length, it depends on how far you are willing to
walk around a bed. Mine vary from 15-60 feet. Either that or practice
your broadjump. Of course, you can install "bridges" of wood or
stepping stones. For depth we aim at a minimum of 6", average is
about 12" and for special needs up to just below waist high. It is a
versatile form of construction.
Lorraine, your layout sounds lovely. Mine is more or less geometric.
I think in rectangles, I guess.
