 Lacewing larvae, perhaps?  Ladybug larvae look like little grey dragons.

Hi Steve,  

They are definitely not lady bug larvae.  I hadnt thought of lacewing larvae,
tho we do have afew adults around here on occasion.  They are about  5mm long
and 1mm wide and are uniform aphid green in color,  and have tapered ends,  no
obvious legs,  and no real distinguishing characteristics.  

I just looked up what lacewing larvae look like and they are not.   Until you
suggested what it might be,  I had not really cared as long as it ate lots of
aphids.  Now I am curious.  Must see if I can find one tomorrow to look more
closely.
