Hi all,
I followed the guidelines for pea seed saving and collected more than a half
cup of great looking seeds from my favorite sugar-snap Sugar Mel. I have also
just pulled my drying Wando and Green Arrow and anticipate harvesting about a
half cup from each of these as well after they dry. I dont grow great amounts
of peas and this will probably be enough seed for next year.
Re saving lettuce seed. Can this be done? I saved some last year from Red
Sails that was good, but I now have some lettuce (Olga, a type of Romaine)
that has bloomed, the pappus is feathery, but the seed seems not to have
set. There are several plants of the same variety blooming. I know many
composites will self if they have not been outcrossed after a period of time,
but does lettuce do this? If there are several varieties blooming at the same
time will it hybridize?
Thanks, Janet.
