Asparagus companions/interplant

Hello,
I am hoping you guys can give me some ideas of what to
plant in my asparagus bed(companions) that won't
interfere with the developing plants. This is a first
year bed with one year old plants, so I won't get
asparagus for a while, but would like to grow possibly
some carrots or other root crops in the rich, deep,
soil. It is a 12" deep raised bed, 8X4. Does anyone
see any problem with carrots? What about spinach or
lettuce?
