hi carol,
i had the same tomato as you did. i think it was probably a hybrid
which is most likely why it did not continue to come up. the one i had
was called a lemon boy plum. i have volunteer tomatoes every year as
there are always one or two that i miss at harvest. i've even had them
come up on the patio between the stone slabs. organic gardening did an
experiment a few years ago with direct seeding of tomatoes and their
consensus was that after a couple of months there wasn't much difference
in the size of the direct seeded ones compared to the transplanted ones
so i would suggest that you go ahead and throw them seeds in the garden
asap.
