Yes, we have a sifter. It is made out of a frame of 2x3's, I think, and
looks like a mini stretcher, with 2 handles at each end. The mesh is
pretty strong stuff, kind of like what you see over air conditioners, or
radiators, or something. We made it because the people who lived here
before had a thing for gravel mulches with plastic underneath. In lots of
places, the plastic has broken down partially, and there is this terrible
mix of gravel, plastic, and dirt, that is impossible to grow anything in
(except nasty little oxalis') and so we had to sift out the soil every
time we want to plant something anywhere around the house. If I'm by
myself, instead of bouncing the frame so the soil will fall through, I put
on a pair of leather gloves, and just push a few shovelfuls back and forth
on the screen, and most of it goes right through. I have some gravel, real
cheap.................
