In Alaska I used several inches of straw mulch on the strawberry bed, but
be sure to remove the mulch when the weather stabilizes in the spring to
give the ground a better chance to warm up and dry out. It's good starter
for the spring compost pile too. I confess, I think I cut the plants back
to the crown, but I don't remember absolutely for sure.
