RE: Giant - or not so giant - pumpkins

That sounds like quite a pumpkin, Sarah :) We had 3 volunteer plants this
year that we let sprawl over the potato vines, and wound up with 42
pumpkins--I was shocked but happy...You might be interested in the web site
for our local Pumpkin Show, which is held the 3rd week in October.
200-400,000 people visit Circleville Ohio, a town of 12,000 or so..it's
amazing. The site is www.pumpkinshow.com Last year's winner weighed in at
429 pounds.

I'm an allotment grower from South London and I've just harvested my
largest pumpkin. Grown from 'Hundredweight' seeds bought from Kings, I
had to ask the local vet if I could use his scales to weigh it. It came
to a massive 17.6kg, or 40lb for those of us who still think in
Imperial weights and measures.

I know it would look like a pea compared to the pumpkins grown in
America but I'm quite proud of it and just wanted to share my excitement

with like-minded folk!

Have a good weekend ...

SARAH in Sydenham, South-East London
