Re: tree suggestion

Hello all,
got in late on this thread(fantastic yard work weather here)..
Just a thought on the Rhamnus frangula 'Columnaris' suggestion..
Unless you can locate sterile,(seems I read once there is such )sources IMO
dont do it.
The berries are devoured by birds which then drunkenly fly into our windows
etc.but the worst part is,volunteers by the droves...
I am forever pulling them out and they are resistant to pulling unless you
catch them young.
I read somewhere that some areas are considering listing them as invasive..

We have 10 or more of these , extremely hardy, heat -drought tolerant, disease
free, (here anyway), and very fastigate shrubbery (ours are 10yr.& well over
13' tall and perhaps 31/2'ft.at the widest point).. ..I guess you could say
its a small tree, but to my mind they are tall multi-trunked shrubs.......I
once saw a great pairing of R.f. lining a long driveway and carpeting the
bases were blue junipers..Very elegant and very efficient in a dry climate.
This is a tough climate (high desert of s.w. Idaho)& these really do the job
for us,but as you can see there are some trade offs....

Don,could you email me? I am ready to send your seed but need your addy.
