Yes, yew is very amenable to pruning and, in fact, needs to be shaped
from early on as some have very wide splaying habits if left to their
own devices. They will sprout from dormant buds in old wood. Even
old plants can be cut back drastically, tho' it is best to do this
over a couple of seasons, rather than all at one time. While
literature always says they are slow growing, I don't really find
that to be so. They will put on a foot or more of growth all the way
around each season...
