If growing from seed, it's supposed to require no pre-treatment whatsoever.
Just plant and grow!
For cuttings, they should be taken anytime from June through August and
are supposed to root quickly and easily. If you have it, RootTone or
some other hormone would be a good insurance policy -- Dirr recommends
3000 ppm IBA quick dip.
Dirr also says that if you are rooting on a misting table they should be
removed after rooting has occured -- excessive moisture will kill the
young plants.
