Corylus avellana 'Contorta', or Harry Lauder's Walking Stick, is an
interesting shrub from an architectural viewpoint. It's particularly
striking in winter, when the snow-laden limbs intertwine with dazzling
brilliance.

Although I don't care for this cultivar too much (mostly because it's
often presented as a grotesque centerpiece within the garden), but
I have seen it used very effectively when interspersed with other
perennials and shrubs. This kind of interplanting can help soften
the bold architectural impact of the plant.
