Forsythia

Hi:

While on a pest and problems of ornamentals class field
trip, we discovered crown gall on forsythia bushes.  Since
these are normally pest and disease free, we are trying to
find out why these plants are having problems.

One question that arose last evening was whether these
plants have more problems in the more southern states.  We
are also wondering if this is a new disease just infecting
forsythia that is slowly migrating to Michigan.

Will appreciate any comments you can make.  What pests or
diseases have you observed?  Please share your state when
you answer so I can track where the problems may be
occurring.
