A friend just called with a horror story. Her tree service accidentally cut
down the wrong tree -- her prized, mature "Wild Cherry".
This was a black cherry, Prunus serotina, approximately 30-feet tall and in
excellent health.
I gave her the names of several local certified arborists, but they say they
can not do an appraisal because, unfortunately, the tree has already been
hauled away.
The company has offered to plant a replacement tree, but, of course, this
tree is not replaceable. She is not planning to go to court over this, but
would like a rough estimate of the tree's value so she can have some leverage
in her dealings with the offending company.
If anyone on the list has a copy of Guide for Plant Appraisal, the Manual
for Plant Appraisers, or some similar source, and would be kind enough to
look up this information and send it to me, I will really appreciate it.
Thanks! --Janis
