Re: Greetings...... Empress Tree (Paulownia)

Gosh, talk about a small world. Thanks for the warm welcome.
So good to see your sunny face again. :)

Okay gang, Joanie says the water is fine, so here goes.

I have a large area between our house and the street,
150 feet X 220 feet, that is completely bare. It is hard desert
soil, can be watered & amended some, is on the south side and
gets VERY hot there in the summer. I need shade and fast. I'm
searching for more information on Empress Trees (Paulownia)
because of their rapid growth and good shade value.

I realize they can be messy but I'm not too concerned about
that as it is such a large area, will be browsed on by goats and
horses and we get allot of wind here that will blow much of the
debris away.

I need answers to questions about this tree, like;

Will they grow well from seed?
Do they need protection from frost while seedlings?
Will they tolerate the hot sun of Arizona summers?
How close together can they be planted?
Can I plant them tightly together for a wind break?
How close to the house can they, safely, be planted?
(don't want any roots to break the foundation)
Will they tolerate heavy winds (30-60 mph) without blowing down?
*Are they poisonous to animals?
Once established, do they still require large amounts of water?
Do any of you have this tree?
What are some of your likes and dis-likes concerning it?

I've been reading all I can find but can't find the answers
to these questions. I'm very interested in first hand experiences.

Thanks so much for any help you can offer.
