Berry color in Lonicera

Since the group has been so quiet, I'll inject a question

Here is a link to a photo a friend of mine showing a bush type Lonicera
growing in Green Bay, WI (I am assuming it is a cultivated species)

http://home.wi.rr.com/llmen/canalberries.jpg

What struck me in the photo was the relatively dark red color of the
berries, much darker than most of the red lonicera berries I am used to
seeing. Thinking this might be a photo artifact, I had him bring be a small
sprig if the plant and, indeed, the berries are really quite dark.

I realize that identification would be a lot easier if we had a flowering
branch, but for that, I'll have to wait until next spring.

Can anyone give any possible suggestions based solely on this photo. The
berries are in groups of 2 and sometimes 3 on opposite sides of the branch
and appear not to be terminal in nature.

Thanks for any help
