After I got your message I checked Michael Dirr's manual to see if my memory
had failed me. It hadn't. The only common name Dirr lists for Viburnum
trilobum is American Cranberrybush Viburnum. Once again, here's an example of
the problem with common names. This time there are noted authorities not
agreeing. Very interesting.
Thanks to Don, and the relative reliability of scientific names, we now know
that the plant Carol knows as Highbush Cranberry and the one I call American
Cranberrybush Viburnum are one and the same -- Viburnum trilobum. --Janis
