<<I'm hoping someone in zone 7 or colder can tell something about their
experience with growing Chaste Tree. I haven't found much written about
it and much of that was contradictory..>>
I saw one on every block when I lived in Albuquerque (zones 6 & 7). They like
dryish sandy (not too rich) soil, lots of sun (half day at LEAST) and they are
not hardy past zone 6 but, if they were, I would try grow one here. They can
reach 8 to 10 feet if trimmed like a tree (they have an upright, spreading
growth habit that looks good bare in winter) or shrub if not kept to a central
leader. The blue or violet flowers have a spicy scent and so do the seeds. The
leaves are palmate and grey green. The tree is said to have medicinal uses. I
regret not being able to grow this one here.
Blessings of the Fruitful Season!
