Oops, sorry about that.  I'm not familiar with R. aureum, so I just assumed
that you meant the more common cultivar.  :)

Anyhow, I don't know about this one.  This is another genus that the
taxonomists have confused the rest of the world with, so it's not even
clear what family it sits in (all depends on who you talk to, I guess).

None of the literature seems to indicate that they're dioecious, so the
only other thing that I can think of is the site.  They're supposed to
like moisture and some sun, but with shade protection during hot parts
of the day, so maybe it's too shaded or stressed?  (grasping at straws,
here)

Sorry that I can't be more help on this one.  Anyone else have any 
ideas?
