Re: Flowering time : latitudinal relationships?


On Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada we notice the most difference
in flowering times in the spring where areas on the southern shore are two
weeks earlier than those only a few km away.

In spring, we are much earlier than elsewhere in Canada - daffodils grown
outdoors here in fields are airfreighted east as cutflowers.  By summer,
however, things have changed.  The coast is cooler than the interior, and
summer flowers like heat, so plants like daylilies are in flower sooner in
Ontario (and Chicago, too, I guess).
