Yep, Donna, it's an indoor plant where you are. Will not take
freezing temperatures at all. Had one for many, many years until I
had to be hard hearted and just pitch it out...tried several times to
propagate the new terminal growth, to no avail, and it got too tall
for the only room it survived winter in at my house. Had mine for
upwards of 20 years, I think....anyway, too long for me to remember
when I acquired it.
It wants bright light, but not necessarily sun- mine did well in a
room with light from recessed 4 lamp fluorescent fixtures...better
than when I tried it in another room that got bright south and west
sun all day. Keep several plants in this room over winter and keep
the lights on about 16 hours a day. It actually prefers a room that
doesn't get too hot in the winter. They are not fast growing and it
will be many years before it gets too tall to keep. Unfortunately,
they do not take well to pruning and side branches, if you managed to
root them, would never grow vertically (or so I've read). But, they
are lovely plants while you have them. Just don't let it dry out
totally or it will drop branches and get really weird looking.
I used to summer mine outside where it got morning sun but was shaded
the rest of the day...it liked that. These can be grown outside in
Florida, where they make really large trees.
