Re: Dirca palustris - Leatherwood
I have two plants, one on partial shade, dry in summer, the other in deep
shade, moist year
round. The one in deep shade is growing very slowly. The other one is growing
much
faster despite the summer dryness. In fact, it has not suffered while plants
around it have
(Viburnum, Rhododendron, Clethra, Enkianthus). It is native not far from here
but I have
not seen it in the wild myself. I understand that it tend to grow in rather
shady situations,
but has a loose habit as a result. Like most plants, it has a better form when
given good light.
It is very hardy as I have seen very nice plants in Z3 gardens.
Hope this is of some use,
Franklin
