Forsythia as a standard

Has anyone else noticed the standard (tree form) of forsythia that is
offered in the current Wayside catalog? Photo at:

I'm curious as to what type of wood they use for the standard (this is a
grafted plant) I didn't know there were any forsythia species that could
produce this large a trunk. Might they have used a related genus? I've
often wondered if you could do something like this with weigela, perhaps by
grafting it on a viburnum std.
