Hamamelis vernalis (Vernal Witchhazel) and H. mollis 'Brevipetala' (Chinese
Witchhazel) partially opened here in central Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) for
a brief couple of days begining Jan. 5. They again opened on Jan. 27. and
are still open now. The petals do roll closed at night or during cold
spells as they occur.
