I have a witch hazel that is about 4 years old and
now about 5 x 5. I would like to try to move it this
year, later in the spring. Anyone have any
experience with this? Do they take to this
treatment well?

I moved one of unknown age, about 4 x 4, 3 years ago. Memory fades, but I
recall it being a difficult dig and done in the fall. I didn't get as much
of a root ball as I'd hoped. It's grown to about 7 x 6 and seems quite
robust, but has never bloomed since! Nope -- not true. Just went out to
look at it. 2-3 open now. Lots of buds to come. Thanks! I might've missed
it!
