I'd like one that'll mow the lawn for me, too... ;)
Seriously, there've been a lot of nice suggestions. Some other
possibilities:
Philadelphus coronarius 'Nanus' (4' high, not prolific)
Philadelphus x lemoinei 'Mont Blanc' (4' high, single flowers 1.25")
Philadelphus x lemoinei 'Aralanche' (3.5' high, single flowers 1", fragrant)
Philadelphus 'Miniature Snowflake' (3-4' high, 2-3' wide, double, prolific)
Itea virginica (iffy; may need water first few years, largish)
Ribes odoratum (3-5')
Hypericum kalmianum (not too open at the base, though)
Hypericum prolificum (not too open at the base, though)
Syringa patula 'Miss Kim' (not too open at the base)
Lonicera xylosteoides 'Claveyi'
Lonicera xylosteoides 'Emerald Mound'
Lonicera xylosteoides 'Hedge King'
Physocarpus opulifolius 'Nana'
And, although I hate to mention it, some of the privets (Ligustrum)
might fit the bill too...
That's about all that I can think of right now...
