Understock for Hydrangea paniculata grafts?

Has anyone here done any work with Hydrangea paniculata grafts?  I
have several of the newer cultivars that I wanted to experiment with
on standards, but I really have no idea what to use as an understock.

What would be a cheap, readily available understock for H. paniculata
grafts?
