Harry,

Hortus III does list a cultivar of A. japonica 'Goldiana', with leaves
mostly yellow.
Have you tried to take any cuttings to see if they can survive on their
own?  There seem to be quite a number of yellow-leaved cultivars of other
woody plants that, while not as vigorous as their green-leaved relatives,
seem to do quite well.
