Harry, I've always considered my garden in zone 7a - figure I'm about the
same as you - just around the beltway....where is 6c?:-)
I have blackened stems and leaves in very bitter winters, but they always
come back and re-leaf out - and these are in a very sheltered position.
So, rather doubt they are very hardy in z. 5 and 6.
Glad someone else said take cuttings - meant to before I went out of town
and didn't get there. Aucuba is very easy from cuttings, in my experience.
Would be extraordinarily nice if your golden branch is propagate-able that
way...who knows, you may have a "new" plant on your hands!! If it is, I am
first in line at plant exchange for one of those babies:-) Dibs, Dibs!
