Re: White Oak national champion gone


From what I read in the WashPost today, there isn't a contender that
comes close.  Pity that the Wye Oak has gone, but considering how
rotted out it was, it's close to a miracle that it's lasted this
long.

I understand that they have been propagating from acorns for a while
and today they were taking cuttings from the downed tree, so its
genes should live on, but that's not quite the same as having a
gigantic, ancient tree standing:-(
