Re: Seedlings of Paperbark Maple (Acer greseum)

I can only speak from having one seedling, but the leaves are distinctive and similar to the leaves on the parent tree.

Subject: Seedlings of Paperbark Maple (Acer greseum)

I'm fortunate enough to have a very nice paperbark maple (Acer gresium),
which scatters it's seed gently around my yard. At first, I thought these
would make for easy propagation until I learned that these seeds have an
exceedingly low germination rate and perhaps may even be unfertile

Yet, I occasionally see seedlings in the area, but we already have several
maple species in the area, and it's hard to tell them apart, particularly as
some may still have some type of juvenile foliage. I'd hate to have to keep
these things around for several years to see exactly what they are.

Does anyone have any hints on identifying seedlings of this tree - or do the
seeds need some special treatment?

Thanks in advance.

Lost a number of shrubs over the winter up here in Milwaukee. I blame it on
the very dry late and summer we had last year and I neglected to give some
of them extra water.
