Re: Roses
Jose,
I think the reason that I balk at roses is that so many people are SO
knowledgable about them, that we will obviously appear as dimwits. I
can't stand to be asked a question about a plant and not be able to
answer intellegently. And roses are so wide spread, I'd have to devote
enormous amounts of time to learning about them, their requirements,
their habits and care. And even if I only offered rugosas, I'd STILL
be asked about hybrid teas, bush, climbers, antique, Jackson & Perkins,
and that other guy whose name is attached to the current rage of rose
varieties.
I don't sell rhododendrons for the same reason.
And besides, there are enough other nurseries that sell that stuff. I'd
rather grow the *really* cool stuff.
I confess to sneaking in a Rosa banksia 'Alba', which I intend to
propagate, and sell as a tender perennial vine (that's my mental
listing, anyway), which will get me off the hook from the Rosarians.
I'm still hunting for a R.b. lutea, which becomes quite scarce once they
stop blooming. I'm even telling growers that I don't CARE what
condition it's in.....I just want it.
