Re: Testing my connection

Dear fellow list members

It does seem to be unusually quit, but it's the time of year, however
here in NE Mississippi zone 7, things are beginning to wake up.
I finally got to enjoy my Royal Star and Saucer Magnolia's this
spring. I can't believe it. We had a nice enough Jan. with a snow of
about 3 in. on the 28 day of Jan. that visited for about 2 days and it
was gone. we never keep a snow for long.
Feb. was created this year, for spring lovers...temps in the mid 50's
to the upper 70's with a cool day thrown in occasionally. March has
been to die for, with some 80's +
My royal star and saucer magnolia's bloomed the 3rd week of Feb. and
were breath taking. The last week in Feb. my forsythia and daffodils
began to bloom, but are now gone for this year. I have one white iris
and 3 blue-purple in bloom, the others are being a little slow to get
started it seems. The redbud trees are in bloom, dogwood have large
fat buds, carolina jasmine in bloom, snowball tree with zillions of
buds, azelia's - some are in bud and others in bloom. fringe tree in
bloom, flowering almond in bloom, haven't checked the gardenia, it's
probable a little early yet. Just last week discovered that I lost both
buddleia (1 black knight, 1 lavander) will have to replace those.
I would mention the many, many perennials that are peeking out of the
ground, but out of respect for Chris, I'll save that for the perennial
list.
I do believe spring has arrived here in Mississippi. The last frost
date for this area is March 27, but am calling the County Ext. office
to make that official.....
The two new plants for me this year are, 1 Rhododendron and 1 Tree
Peony. I would like to report, they are still alive and seem to be
doing well. The Rhody had a bud when I purchased it, but has not
bloomed. The Tree Peony did not, (it looked like a stick of wood)
however it has green leaves and 1 very fat bud, and I believe that
constitutes progress does it not????

ok someone else speak up and let us know what's happening in your area.
I know there is a lot to be said by all.

happy gardening
Donna in NE Mississippi zone 7
