RE: Boxwood

It sounds like an interesting sport to me! Please keep us (me) posted.
There is only one kind of Buxus which can grow in eastern Maine. Korean
or Japanese, I think, not the familiar English box. Even the hardier box
hurts with severe wind/cold. If you're good at taking cuttings you
should have a lot of fun with your new one. The only time I did this, it
was by layering a piece with a stone pressing it into earth. Worked
nice. You may have a faster way. 

Signs of spring---well, we're done with the severe stuff for this year.
While March is mostly a winter month here, we get some of the nicest
weather of the year; (increased sun angle on deep snow) in between
snowstorms. This looks to be "one of those Marches" when March cranks
out snow. Have 24-30" on ground now. If spring starts soon, that will be
about it. If it's one of those Marches," amounts on ground will double
by April 1. I work w/ shrubbery and small trees, naturally, I am dealing
with taller subjects for now. Renewal season for small shrubs must wait
several weeks. 

I hope the remaining list participants on Woody Plants can rekindle the
useful discussions we remember.

Okay, Scott, let me tell you about the branch I found on my variegated
boxwood.  It has reverted? back to or just to a smaller leaf with dark
green
in the middle and a thin white edge.  I cut it off and made cuttings
that
are growing.  Now what?  It will make a slow growing and elegant plant
without a name I guess.  I hear the Buxus Society is slow to name
plants.
