Hi Diana,
Some of the other possibilities include Juniper, Chamaecyparis,
and various ivies such as the Euonymus fortunei cultivars.
Of course, there's also bonsai, so any woody plant is game.
If you're not planning on doing any training, here are some
other woody plants for containers:
Buxus sempervirens 'Suffruticosa'
Calluna vulgaris
Chamaecyparis lawsoniana 'Ellwoodii'
Chamaecyparis pisifera ('Boulevard', 'Filifera Aurea')
Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Nana Gracilis'
Chamaecyparis 'Minima' (specific epithet unknown)
Cotoneaster (specificially apiculatus 'Tom Thumb' and
microphyllus thymifolius)
Erica spp.
Euonymus fortunei (i.e. 'Emerald and Gold')
Gaultheria procumbens
Hedera helix
Juniperus squamata 'Blue Star'
Juniperus communis 'Compacta'
Thuja orientalis 'Aurea Nana'
Vinca minor 'Variegata'
Chris
