Acidifying alkaline soil

Title: Acidifying alkaline soil
For the 3rd (and probably last) time, I am going to try to grow an Enkianthus.  I suspect my past failures were due (at least in part) to my failure to provide the acidic soil that this species appears to appreciate/need.  Our soil here in SE Wisconsin is definitely on the alkaline side (8+).

I know that there are a number of things used to acidify soil and I realize that there is nothing which will permanently achieve this, but does anyone have any suggestions as to what might provide the best results, even if it requires yearly application.

Any other suggestions regarding successful culture of Enkianthus campanulatus would be appreciated.
