In bloom (cont.)

Here's the next installment in my summary of what's in bloom in my
garden here in east central Illinois.

Alpine aster "Goliath" is in full bloom with bright yellow centers and
strikingly strong but light blue petals.
Several hardy cranesbills are blooming blue, white with pink veins,
magenta, and lavender.
The "sundrops" Oenothera is a tall form with yellow flowers blooming in
the day time.
One of the Japanese tree peonies that survived the transplant two years
ago is in bloom--two enormous fluffy white flowers with pale yellow
stamens in the center.
In addition to the phlox bifida, subulata, and stolonifera in the scree,
there are white and blue divaricata in bloom and a "Chatahoochee" blue
with pink eye.
Tall, fluffy flowered white meadow rue (Thalictrum).
Tiny, delicate white iris cristata, only a few inches tall.
Striking orange blooms on the native prairie beauty, hoary puccoon
(Lithosperma).
Airy tiniest but bluest of forget-me-not flowers on the Brunnera
macrophylla.
The blue stars of Amsonia are bursting into bloom.
Wonderfully fragrant light pink blooms on the young shrub line of Daphne
(caucasica, burkwoodii, and Carol Mackie).
Dianthus telstar planted late in the summer as annuals lived over and
are in bloom with brilliant red and purple.
In the shade bed around the pin oak, tiarella has fairy-like white
candles of bloom, next to the rue anemone with dainty pink-white
flowers, and the finishing pulmonarias.
Along the sunny border, the lily-flowered tulips are just now starting
to finish their dramatic many-weeks long display.
Rhodondendrons in purple, pink, and red bloom in the fern bed along with
the last white flowers of the Trillium grandiflorum, wild Geranium
maculatum, and white azalea.
The shade is brightened by the small yellow blooms of the Lamiastrum
with its silvery foliage (this one is small and well-behaved).
Two astilbes are showing tall spires of red and white.
Barrells and pots and hanging baskets and flowerboxes of annuals are
beginning bloom.
The dwarf lilacs are fragrant with tiny light purple blossoms.
Perennial blue flax (Linum) is spilling blooms out of an oak barrell.
Some shrubs are still blooming too--pinks flowers of the bush
honeysuckle, red and pink-flowered variegated weigela, dwarf
fothergilla.

Gee . . . I guess this got too long again, sorry. Lots of things are in
bud, so in a couple of weeks maybe I'll post another bloom list if
anybody's interested.
