I really like the Carol Mackey Daphne. It is flowering now here-western
MA, zone 5-and has wonderfully fragrant flowers starting around Mother's
Day in a "normal" spring. It has a nice rounded habit and is quick
growing. Mine was bought as a tiny baby four years ago and is now 20
inches tall and 4 feet around! I has narrow leaves in whorls which are
egded in gold so that it looks nice all season. A relative, the Somerset
Daphne, is a little larger and bloomed of and on for me all last summer.
That was its first year so we will see what it does this summer.
