Re: Slow to come out of dormancy

Hello,

You could try sweating them. I tried it for the first time this year on
some mail order Sassafras and it worked very well. Last year I ordered
from the same place, but all Sassafras stems shriveled and died. Make
sure the soil is moist and place a plastic bag over the plant. The bag
should be sealed in order to let humidity build up around the plant.
Keep the plant out of direct sunlight and check for growth every 5 days.
I removed the bags after I saw a good 1/4 inch bud break and kept in a
shady location until I had a good couple of inches of new growth. So
far, so good.

I purchased a mock orange and a barberry that have yet to come out of
dormancy.
They are in pots until I find a place for them to live. I had them
outside and
have not moved them into the greenhouse. There is green coloring in the
stems.
Any tricks to break dormancy? I've started giving them "willow water"
but no
action yet.
