Re: acer triflorum/griseum


I am glad to hear that A. griseum grows so fast.  I figured it would be 15
years befor I saw as many feet on mine-particularly after the haircuts
given by our local deer.  Have you found your tree slow to leaf out in
spring?  I am hoping that was a deer-effect as well.
Regarding the trunk peeling, you've got me really curious now.  When I go
to our local botanic garden this weekend, I am going to pay special
attention to trunks.  All are 3" + in diameter, and I can't think of a time
when the trunks weren't heavily peeling.  Of course, I noticed it
particularly in fall and winter.  So now I will make a point of looking in
late spring.
